An Independent Day School Extra Curricular Activities A key part of the Riverston experience is our pupils diverse range of extra-curricular activities. We feel this is essential to the educational balance of every pupil of whatever ability and it starts at the earliest possible age. Away from the timetable There is a varied choice of extra-curricular activities throughout the school in different subject areas: After-school activities are well represented at Riverston. All children are able to get involved in a variety of curriculum-related events to build on their current abilities and to give newcomers an introduction to these interests. Science, Maths and ICT clubs develop interest in numbers, help to further the science activities that are not fully covered in the curriculum and give an opportunity to improve skills. Homework club is attended by pupils in the library suite. Extra research can be carried out to facilitate higher attainment and to develop coursework in a quiet area. Sports activities include football coaching, rugby, cricket, gymnastics, street dancing, ballet, tennis, athletics, basketball, netball, trampolining and table tennis. A holiday club for the younger children runs during the Easter and summer breaks and every pupil is welcome to join in the fun. (Subject to demand). The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is introduced in Year 9 and provides pupils with an opportunity to develop leadership, organisation, communication, endurance and social skills. Enrichment week: A whole week at the end of the summer term when the timetable is collapsed. Activities have included: safety days, circus skills, pirates and mermaids day, museum visits and science team building.
