Riverston School              An Independent Day School

Every boy and girl at Riverston has the opportunity to enjoy learning and to reach their full potential. We embrace individuality and understand that every child is special. Riverston is an achieving school, where we particularly value respect, trust, understanding, tolerance and family values.

What makes us unique?

The staff at Riverston recognise and appreciate the fact that every child in our care is unique. In turn, we believe that each pupil wants to grow, develop, learn and achieve in an environment that is unique in itself.

We readily accept each child develops at different rates and learns in different ways. Our aim is to make the most of such needs and diversity throughout their education.

Riverston's unique nature is due to a number of key factors.

To start with, we are a deliberately small, mixed ability school that thrives on its independence and its lively mix of boys and girls. Class sizes average 15 pupils - that means more personal attention.

Our broad and balanced curriculum helps each pupil to enjoy an almost individualised timetable. We believe this to be a key benefit and will assist all pupils in maximising their potential.

For students with impending exam courses there is a wide choice of subjects, both academic and vocational.

Our Ethos

Every child matters at Riverston. That's the foundation stone of our distintive character, spirit and attitude.

Independent leaning is valued by the children and there is a clear focus on sure-footed personal development, where social skills are encouraged to flourish.

We believe that our pastoral care is second to none. A warm, welcoming and caring atmostphere that helps promote hard work, loyalty and co-operation.

Positive, supportive and achieving...........................

We encourage children to embrace the wider world. Trips, public performances and guest speakers play an important part of life here.  Extra-curricular activities are crucial.

The vibrant multicultural nature of the school helps our pupils to develop into well -balanced individuals. We aim to make them comfortable and thouroughly at ease in social and educational environments.

How we care

A great strength of the school is our pastoral care. The philosophy is simple: we believe that if children are happy, they will enjoy learning and fulfil their potential. We strive to maintain an atmostphere in which this can happen, one that is centred on family values, respect and trust.

Guidance and support is offered at all times and individual progress is monitored carefully. Bullying is never tolerated.

We aim to enable every child to fit into society as pleasent, disciplined young people capable of succeeding on their chosen career path.

How we support

Riverston is proud of its mixed ability intake policy, recognising that all children are special regardless of their academic ability. We respect and respond to the complex factors that may influence individual pupil's ability to learn.
