All
the Lodges are listed Grade II buildings. The
Gatehouse Lodges are at or near three entrances to Beckenham Place.
Currently, the main lodge near Beckenham Hill Station is part of the
public park properties and is at the main vehicle entrance.
Westgate is privately owned in Westgate Road (has recently undergone
extensive underpinning).
The Gatehouses at the junction of Foxgrove Road and Southend Road are
also privately owned haveing been sold by the Cator Estate probably
when this corner of the estate was developed as private housing.
Within the park other buildings include Garden Cottage (near the
ornamental garden) and the Foxgrove Club (at the Westgate Road
entrance). This Edwardian building was the original golf clubhouse.
Home Farm once stood near the main lodge (near Beckenham Hill Station)
and the lines of its foundations can be seen on the golf course in dry
weather. One of the last occupants of the farm painted the picture
below when she was a young girl (circa 1930).
It is believed that an Ice Well was situated near Garden Cottage (a
mound of earth with some trees on it marks the spot).
Old maps show other small buildings near garden cottage, greenhouses in
the ornamental (kitchen) garden and some buildings in or near the
woodland. Summerhouse Hill Wood maybe got its name from the
cottage/summerhouse, the foundations of which can still be found in the
wood. Maybe a 'Summer House' overlooked the once extensive ornamental
lake.
